Dear subscribers and fellow film lovers, welcome to the unveiling of No Home Movies’ Spring Season 2022.
February 20
Let’s start by saying that we are proud to show Ulrike Ottinger’s Ticket of No Return (1979) which will be screened on Sunday the 20th of February. This announce comes with short notice, but we hope this won’t hinder your inner thirst for cinematic experiences. You are welcome to start book your seat by mailing at kuf.kontakt@gmail.com.
Ulrike Ottinger is a unique director in the world of art cinema. An outlier of the New German Cinema “engaged in the relationship between cinema and theater, the operatic and the mythic” (Michael Sicinski, 2020, Cinema Scope). In the next newsletter we are going to delve deeper into her work but for now we can confidently say that we are very excited!

Next stop is nothing less than the Senegalese masterpiece Touki Bouki (1973) from legendary film director Djibril Diop Mambéty. The status of this incredible piece of cinema has notably increased in recent years and is now regarded as an absolute milestone. We must thank the work of the Cineteca di Bologna, the Film Foundation and film curators around the world who have actively sought to expand film canon beyond Eurocentric paradigms.
The surreal inventiveness and anti-colonial critique vibrate strongly in Touki Bouki. This screening is an occasion for No Home Movies to inaugurate a series which seeks to investigate the de-colonial cinematic imagination.

Last but not least we intend to celebrate and commemorate the great Agnes Varda on the date of her birth. With such a rich and variegated filmography, it is hard to pick just one film (our pick will be unveiled later). In a sense, Varda’s curiosity and great ability to reinvent herself throughout her carrier defies many aspects of classic author theory. A true icon, we miss you greatly!
As usual, a newsletter containing thoughts about the films and practical information will drop in your inbox close to each screening.
Stay tuned and thank you for supporting this project! The film club’s premiere was a success, and we are happy to see that the Gothenburg’s Cinameteket will show both Goodbye Dragon Inn, and What Time Is It There? A big shout-out to our fellow cinephiles at the Cinemateket for picking Tsai Ming-Liang’s films this season and I encourage you all to support the Bio Capitol.
